Our 16 week short term certificate programs provide high demand, workforce ready certifications for careers in the healthcare and industry fields. Scholarship and self pay options are available for those who qualify.

Our programs run twice a year in the fall and spring. The fall semester runs August – December. Registration for fall starts in May. The Spring Semester runs January – June. Registration for spring starts in October.

Healthcare Programs

WTAE-CT requires all healthcare students to provide an official copy of their up to date immunization records upon acceptance. Click (LINK) to see a list of the required immunizations.

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

A certified clinical medical assistant (CCMA) assists a physician with clinical treatments or procedures. Their responsibilities include helping prepare for exams, taking the vital signs, giving vaccinations and collecting the medical history of patients.

Sterile Device Processing Technician (SDPT)

 A sterile device processing technician is assigned duties performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery center, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process.

Dental Assistant (DENT)

Dental assistant are important members of the dental team. A dental assistant is a trained professional that assists dentists in their work. This includes scheduling appointments, setting up any necessary equipment before a procedure, helping with instruments during dental procedures and keeping records of patients’ visits and treatment plans. Specially trained dental assistants will also process x-rays and other labs for the dentist.

Pharmacy Technician (PHRM)

Pharmacy Technicians ensure that the medication is safe and effective for its intended use. They work closely with a pharmacist, locating medications in stock while following regulations to ensure accuracy. They also they fill bottles with prescribed medications, apply labels to medication bottles, fill out insurance paperwork if necessary so patients can receive their prescriptions, collect payments from patients and keep a record of inventory. Pharmacy technicians operate under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacist and work directly with nurses, doctors and customers.

Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)

A Medical Billing and Coding Specialist helps healthcare facilities manage insurance claims, invoices, and payments. The day-to-day work of a medical coding and billing specialist includes:
  • Properly coding services, procedures, diagnoses, and treatments
  • Preparing and sending invoices or claims for payment
  • Correcting rejected claims
  • Tracking payments
  • Following up with patients and insurance companies about outstanding bills
This career pathway requires advanced computer skills. Only students with a high level of computer literacy should apply.

Industry Programs

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

HVAC technicians diagnose electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems. This field requires a basic knowledge of trade math, heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing. Good communication skills are also essential for this career. Their duties usually include the installation, maintenance and repair of ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.

Plumbing Foundations (PLMB)

Apprentice plumbers work under the guidance of more experienced plumbers and assist with the installation and repair of residential and commercial plumbing. Their duties usually include installing new fixtures, unclogging drains, and repairing pipes.

MIG Welding (WELD)

A welder is responsible for assembling pieces of metal together or repairing damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape. Their duties include reviewing blueprints, cutting metal into the appropriate shape and smoothing molten metal to remove creases.

Electrical Foundations (ELEC)

Apprentice Electricians usually assist other electricians in diagnosing, repairing, installing, testing and maintaining high and low voltage electrical equipment and hard wired and wireless telecommunication systems. This field requires a basic knowledge of trade math, basic electrical theory, blueprints and wiring systems.

Carpentry Foundations (CARP)

Are you interested in a career as an apprentice carpenter? Our Carpentry Foundations class might be just what you’re looking for: An apprentice carpenter learns basic carpentry skills such as how to read a blueprint, identify the best tools for a job, measure and cut wood, and assemble parts to create a finished product.
