Student Spotlight: Meet India!.
Wayne Township Adult Education opened a door for me like no other. Classes were in the evening, at no cost to me, I went everyday, I worked hard and finished strong! Right now, I have 4 job offers and the hardest part of life now is deciding which one to accept. My name is India H., a mother of two
Life growing up was difficult because my parents separated and I had to shuttle between Indiana and Illinois to see both mom and dad. Due to my situation, I tried to find love but got it the wrong way which led to me becoming a teenage mother. The burden of raising a child became mine alone because the father was not ready to give any support.
There is always light at the end of a tunnel! Adult Education was the light through which I acquired my GED, paving the way for me to enroll into the Medical Assistant Program at Olympia College, Merrillville, Indiana. I concluded my course and got employed. Life became better for me, as I was able to care for my two children.
I was happy with this improvement, but wanted more! I wanted to become a front desk staff in a hospital but lacked the funds for more schooling. I couldn’t afford to stop working to take on these classes. That was my situation when I learned about Wayne Township Adult Education and numerous programs it offers at no cost.
I joined the Career Training Program and right now I am a Certified Medical Office Administrative Assistant with four job offers! My life no doubt has taken a flight! Thanks to WTAE for providing people like me with this opportunity to achieve our dreams.
