Student Spotlight: Meet Zoul!
“I am Zoul P. and I come from Benin Republic in West Africa. Before my relocation to America in March 2018, I used to think that everything would just fall in place the moment I stepped foot in the country. But reality dawned on me and I realized I had been day-dreaming all those years.
My country Benin Republic is a French speaking country. So that alone was the first barrier I faced in the U.S. because I could not follow the language. Everywhere I went for employment never worked for me because of my inability to engage in English. I ended up in cleaning and delivery jobs for 2 years in New York.
While still in New York, it came to a point where I felt I needed to change the environment and I came to Indiana. I got a job with Amazon, which makes life a bit more comfortable compared to my previous jobs. But there was stil a need for me to learn how to speak and write well in English. God helped me to find Wayne Township Adult Education.
Right now, I am in English class, on the path to obtain my GED. Even though my English is not perfect, but I can express myself and engage with people which has set me on the path of success. Once I have my GED, I will begin a career path in HVAC because back home, I was into home related engagements, included plumbing and electrification.”
